This rapidly growing sector can be split into two main groups, telephone cables and data systems cables. Benvic compounds are used for the sheathing and insulation of both interior and exterior telephone cables, inter-phone cables, spiral cord and switchboards, as well as for the sheathing of communications, security and video cables. For these applications, the main properties required of a cable are low susceptibility to corrosion, plus good resistance to abrasion and fire. Benvic PVC compounds are ideal for sheathing co-axial radio frequency cables such as TV antennae and TV distribution cables, as well as for LAN cables like Token Ring, Ethernet and 'Universal'. These applications make greater demands and Benvic is selected because of its good resistance to thermal ageing and fire, its good adhesion to the conductor, its non-conductive properties and its low smoke release. The fact that it allows high extrusion speeds while providing a fine layer thickness and freedom from heavy metals are other important factors.
